How it works

Daily Exchange Rate Methodology

Exchange rate source

The tool requests a daily exchange rate table using USD as the base currency, then calculates cross-currency values in the browser. If rates were fetched recently, the page uses the locally cached copy instead of making another request.

Conversion formula

For a direct USD conversion, the calculator multiplies the amount by the target currency rate. For non-USD pairs, it first normalizes through USD and then converts to the target currency.

Why provider rates differ

Banks, card networks, airport exchange desks, brokers, and money transfer providers may add spreads, fees, or timing differences. Treat this page as a planning estimate, not a quote for a transaction.

When to refresh

Daily rates are usually enough for travel budgets and quick comparisons. For trading, wire transfers, tax reporting, or large payments, verify the live rate with the institution handling the transaction.

FAQ

Currency Converter Questions

How often are rates updated?

The calculator fetches daily rates and caches a successful update for 24 hours in this browser.

Can I convert EUR to JPY?

Yes. The calculator supports cross-currency conversions between the listed currencies, not only USD pairs.

Are fees included?

No. Bank fees, card foreign transaction fees, broker spreads, remittance fees, and cash exchange margins are not included. See our guide on mid-market rates and bank spreads for details.

Can I use this for travel planning?

Yes, it is useful for quick travel budgets, online shopping comparisons, invoice estimates, and general personal planning. Our travel money guide covers the full picture.

Why does my bank show a different rate?

Banks and payment networks may use their own rate time, spread, and fee structure. Always verify the final provider rate before paying.

Does the site store my amount?

No account or database is used. Rate data may be cached locally, but entered amounts are not uploaded to this site. See the privacy policy for full details.
